Superintendent's Message

Carter County Schools goal is to provide an intellectually, challenging and developmentally appropriate educational program for each individual child. Through utilizing combined efforts and resources, our district continues to achieve our goal of increasing learning for all students. We truly recognize and accept the responsibility to ensure all students receive a quality education. Decisions are based on doing what is best for students through the process of involving all stakeholders. Our school system works diligently to create a safe, supportive and nurturing environment that honors the worth, uniqueness and value of each individual student. Carter County Schools currently has an enrollment, which exceeds 5,100 students. We have two high schools, East and West Carter High, that include grades 9-12. East and West Carter Middle Schools include grades 6-8. All six of our Elementary Schools have preschool-5th grade. Our Career and Technical Center as well as the Credit Recovery Program are centrally located to accommodate our high school students. We also partner with Ashland Community and Technical College, Morehead State University and Kentucky Christian University to provide many opportunities for our high school students to receive college credit during their junior and senior year. In addition to the core curriculum we offer other educational and support opportunities such as Special Education, Extended School Services, Gifted/Talented, ELL, FRYSC, Title I, Speech, Guidance Programs and Homebound Services. We are fortunate to have a faculty/staff that provides high quality programs for students. We greatly appreciate our students parents/guardians who value education and support learning at home. Our community support provides tremendous opportunities for our schools.

The mission of the Carter County School District is to provide all students a quality, meaningful education utilizing family, schools and community interaction to produce responsible graduates who possess a sense of self-worth and the skills and knowledge necessary to be competitive in an ever-changing global society.
